De acuerdo con esta biografía, faltó poco para que Orwell no fuera como el Guasón de la película: "Failure, failure, failure -failure behind me, failure ahead of me- that was by far the deepest conviction that I carried away".Por fortuna no fue así, y esta biografía reconstruye los avatares de una de las novelas más impactantes que se hayan escrito.
