Nació en Medellín, Colombia. Hizo estudios de Dirección y Realización de Cine en The London Film School, en el Reino Unido, y de Literatura en la Universidad Javeriana. Ha publicado el libro de cuentos Maldito amor, el relato infantil La niña calva y las novelas Mala noche, Rosario Tijeras (ganadora del Premio Dashiell Hammett de novela negra), Paraíso Travel, Melodrama, Santa suerte, El mundo de afuera (Premio Alfaguara de novela 2014), El cielo a tiros y El vacío en el que flotas.
