Alexander Haik leads a happy and contented life. As a textile merchant, he holds complete control over his factory, lands, and family. Despite the gathering clouds in the sky of Lebanon during the mid-1960s, and the ongoing fights between his sister Mado and his wife Marie, as well as his beloved daughter Karen, Alexander remains unaffected. As for his successor, time is not a concern. When the time comes, he will choose between Nicolas, his eldest son who has no doubts about life or himself, and Harith, the youngest son who is passionate about books and adventures.
