Total Indifference reveals America's ceaseless and largely ignored firearm deaths and injuries. This book presents a compelling case in favor of restricting firearms to reduce that violence. This book questions the right to carry firearms without accounting for the desires of those who do not own or carry firearms. There are few benefits to gun ownership. The evidence shows that firearms are ineffective for protecting the family. Gun ownership may also represent a compelling threat to national security. We forget the rights of victims and non-gun-owners. I question whether the rights of society supersede the right to own guns. Criminals, traffickers and the violent all have access to firearms with few restrictions. Constraints on the ATF and CDC help to exacerbate the effect of gun violence on all of us. Congress refuses to act even to enact basic restrictions like background checks, limits on ammunition, insurance, licensing, and registration.
