July of 1863 the War between the states has entered its second year and shows no sign of ceasing. With the Army of Northern Virginia advancing through Maryland, Confederate Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan leads a raid through Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio to bring the war the North and try and draw Union troops away from other parts of the country. In the town of Marietta, Ohio many men, including two friends, enlist in the state militia to protect their homes and are sent to the old Fort Harmar and ordered to prepare for its defense. However, their officers are as green as the men and as they build and try to drill they wonder if Morgan will come their way and if he does, how will they stand up against the best the South has to offer.
