Elif Shafak (Estrasburgo, Francia, 1971) es una escritora turca criada en diversos países gracias al trabajo diplomático de su madre, incluyendo una etapa en España. Actualmente reside entre Estambul y Londres, donde compagina su carrera literaria con colaboraciones en prensa. Escribe tanto en turco como en inglés, abordando en sus obras temas como la identidad cultural, la memoria histórica y el papel de la mujer en sociedades islámicas. Su novela más celebrada, La bastarda de Estambul, explora la complejidad de la historia turca desde una perspectiva contemporánea. En 2019, 10 minutos y 38 segundos en este extraño mundo la situó como finalista del Booker Prize, afianzando su reconocimiento internacional.
