When a Goddess set out to create Her world and its inhabitants, She started by creating the Elves in Her image, but Her dissatisfaction with Her first children led to Her formation of the Dwarves. After the first blood was shed between the Elves and Dwarves, the still unsatisfied Goddess created a mortal race of magic-using humans, the Wielders, separated by a vast forest from the world of Elves and Dwarves. She hoped the Wielders would be balanced and bring Her joy, but they were the most flawed of all. When Izith, the youngest son of the first family of Wielders, is born with the ability to wield the powers of shadow, the Goddess and his family turn against him, afraid of his immense power. Outcasted and hated, Izith creates his bloodline of shadow wielders to seek revenge against his family and Goddess. Izith would become the monster he was always accused of being. Using the power of light wielding, Izith's oldest brother, Iden, sets out to destroy his youngest brother once and for all, but the powers of shadow are not so easily broken. As kingdoms form and alliances are made, the descendants of the first Wielder family are left to pick up the pieces left behind by Iden and Izith.
