Reseña del libro "The Psychology of Julian Jaynes: A Guide for the Perplexed (en Inglés)"

With the publication of his ground-breaking book almost half a century ago, The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, Julian Jaynes shifted the parameters of debate in psychology and forced a re-examination of age-old assumptions that have vexed great thinkers for centuries. Since then, research has updated and tested Jaynes's hypotheses, finding substantial evidence for his claims. Nevertheless, misunderstandings and mischaracterizations still plague interpretations of Jaynesian psychology. The author, a leading expert on Jaynes, dispels the confusion with brief, accessible, and thematically focused commentaries. He shows how a range of subjects are better understood when viewed through a Jaynesian lens: the cultural construction and historical emergence of consciousness; animal minds; mind–body dualism; hallucinations as an adaptive capability; mental vocabularies and metaphors; mental imagery; nonconscious cognition; philosophy of mind; psychohistory; psychotherapy; the origins of religion; and anomalous psychological behavior, such as hypnosis and spirit possession.
