If you have an interest in ships and are seeking adventure then this book is for you. Drunkenness, stealing, superstition, murder, mutiny and the overriding mercy of God are found in its pages. Its general ethos is Christian. The story is fictional and tells of a young orphan, Sandy Scott, who finds himself at sea in an nineteenth century clipper ship called "Falcon". The ship is sailing from New York to San Francisco under the captaincy of Matt Palmer. The captain is renowned for making record-breaking voyages. He is a hard, yet fair man. However, he has to contend with a pretty motley crew and with the fact that the ship was launched with a bottle of water. The book also contains a number of diagrams and illustrations supplying some interesting facts about the structure of clipper ships and some of the work that took place on board.
