the sailors and royal family danced merrily on the deck

እቶም ባሕረኛታትን ንጉሳዊ ስድራቤትን ኣብቲ መርከብ ብሓጐስ ሳዕስዑ

The little mermaid could not help thinking of her birthday

እታ ንእሽቶ መርመይድ ብዛዕባ ዕለተ ልደታ ክትሓስብ ኣይከኣለትን።

the day that she rose out of the sea for the first time

ንመጀመርታ ግዜ ካብ ባሕሪ ዝተንስአትላ መዓልቲ

similar joyful festivities were celebrated on that day

ኣብታ መዓልቲ እቲኣ ተመሳሳሊ ሓጐስ ዝመልኦ በዓላት ይኽበር ነበረ።

she thought about the wonder and hope she felt that day

on her paining feet, she poised herself in the air

በቲ ዝቃጸል ዝነበረ እግራ፡ ኣብ ኣየር ኣዳለወት

the way a swallow poises itself when in pursued of prey

ምውሓጥ ግዳይ ክስዕብ ከሎ ንነብሱ ዘዳልወሉ ኣገባብ

the sailors and the servants cheered her wonderingly

እቶም ባሕረኛታትን ኣገልገልትን ብግርም ኣሐጐስዋ

She had never danced so gracefully before
