Through archival research, close textual analysis, and historiographical critique, the study uncovers the ways in which Fascist intellectuals, Franciscan friars, and state propaganda appropriated Francis's image to construct a national saint capable of inspiring sacrifice, hierarchy, and colonial ambition.
