Geri Halton is a at a crossroads. A pretty, but not 'model pretty', smart, and witty woman has not lived up to her potential and is working in a dead end job at a seniors' residence. Her relationship with Carlo has gone stale, and she's having a hard time managing her credit card debt. Through a series of circumstances she finds herself on a reality TV dating show called Slapshot of Love. On the show, a popular single Dad hockey star, Ryan Tremblay, is choosing a mate from a stunning collection of beautiful women. Included in this list is Geri's spoiled brat, and possibly evil cousin Meagan. Geri isn't exactly cut out for a romantic TV show. She finds many of the 'dates' to be ridiculous and on a 'romantic' helicopter ride, she gets motion sickness. Will Geri get sucked into the fake world of reality TV? Will she be able to determine what is real and what is imagined? Will she and Ryan fall in love on TV? The book at once sends up and satirizes reality TV, and at the same time, uses the tricks and hooks of the genre to capture the reader. If you enjoyed Bridget Jones's diary or books by Nick Hornby like About a Boy and High Fidelity, Slapshot of Love will score with you.
