Melinda Adams discovers her parents have left her two sisters and her without funds to continue their life. With the wedding of her youngest sister, Phyllis, approaching, Mel is scrambling to put together enough money to carry out Phyl's plans. Then she applies for a job as a teacher/companion for a little boy who has lost his mother. To her surprise, she is accepted to the position and prepares to move from the Spokane Valley to the Long Beach peninsula in southwestern Washington.
