Hungary is a historical nation-state whose people possess a centuries-old culture of state governance. However, its agency in international relations is currently largely limited due to its membership in the EU and NATO. The author analyzes the key processes and problems of Hungary's economic growth at the present stage. His econometric study covers 70 years from 1950 to 2020, highlighting the manufacturing industry as the driving sector of the Hungarian economy. It was conducted primarily using the general, or world, growth model with a built-in mechanism of technical progress. This Kaldorian-type endogenous model, which resulted from a global economic study covering 131 countries including Hungary, takes into account not only physical and human capital, but also time as an event space for creative economic activity. Special attention is devoted to the analysis of Hungary's catching-up economic development in comparison with a group of leading European Union countries.
