In an attempt at normalcy, she marries Craig, a pleasant computer programmer, pursues a writing career, and settles into a nice suburban life. While researching a story about Alzheimer's patients and their families, Megan finds herself fascinated by the disease. While she cannot help but notice and remember everything, the families she interviews include individuals who are losing the ability to make and retain even basic memories. She also meets Justin, the grandson of one of the women she interviews. With Craig pressuring her to start a family she doesn't want, Megan's self-destructive tendencies kick in. She and Justin start a passionate affair. When tragedy strikes close to home, Megan's world threatens to come crashing down. It's the kind of disaster you'd like to forget. Trouble is, Megan can't.
