MAKING GENESIS: Growing Old with a Bang. Marvin Kananen has written a book on aging. This is not a "how to do it" book because aging just happens, it's not something we have to work at. There are many books that tell you how to prepare yourself for becoming older and Mr. Kananen is sure there are many good books on how to prepare yourself for that change from working to retirement. Having endured that transition himself, in his case retiring from the African bush where he spent twelve years working with the Maasai, he returned to America with a box full of manuscripts and no plans. When he returned to America, he had to find a new way of life. Kananen's way of coping is through his stories, and he used his character, Dr. Kurt Jacobi, to teach him how to make that transition. Fiction is sometimes only a story, and sometimes it shows us the path which we ought to walk. Kananen followed the path of his character. This story is frightening, sad, happy, confusing, joyful, and rewarding; so is life! Fiction will take us to new places physically, spiritually, and mentally if we let it.
