Get an architect's view of America's lighthouses through the collections of the Historic American Building Survey (HABS), and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) - preservers of America's architectural history with a diverse range of historic photographs and architectural designs of buildings throughout the country. With over 90 black and white photos and over 50 detailed architectural plans from the HABS/HAER website, you will delve into the internal and external structures of the lighthouses. Featured in the book are many unique lighthouse structures, such as the Port Mahon Lighthouse, which hovers over the water on pilings and the Portland Breakwater Lighthouse, which contains architectural details similar to those found on the White House. GPS coordinates and a brief history of many of the locations are also included, courtesy of www.ohiobarns.com, a website maintained by Ohio resident, Mike MacCarter.
