Raed Rafeh never imagined he'd be at the center of one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history. With a background in software engineering and public safety systems, he spent years designing emergency response solutions and implementing hospital information systems before stepping into his role as COO of the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 2020.

Just weeks later, he found himself steering the organization through a perfect storm-a collapsing economy, a pandemic, and the Beirut port explosion. His blend of technical skill, operational insight, and human-centered leadership guided him through the chaos-and proved that true leadership emerges when ordinary people rise to meet extraordinary circumstances.
