This book provides a fresh approach to understanding the origins and possible future direction of the Northeast Asia "history wars." Leading scholars in history, literary studies, and education present the complex issue in a historical context by assessing its political and cultural dimensions, particularly with regards to relations between Japan and Korea. Their essays also touch on the significance of civil society efforts to advance peaceful reconciliation and the social and political forces that have worked to frustrate such efforts since 1945. At its core, this volume explores the political significance in the gap between Korean and Japanese civil society versus governmental efforts to resolve issues lingering from the Pacific War in Asia; the significance of cultural as well as political efforts to understanding historical and contemporary relations among Northeast Asian neighboring states; and specific factors--such as textbook reform, revised school curricula, and civil society education efforts-- that are working to ameliorate the heretofore deadlocked "history wars."

Michael Lewis (Nueva Orleans, 1960) es un reconocido escritor y periodista estadounidense especializado en economía, finanzas y cultura popular. Graduado en Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Princeton y con un máster en Economía por la London School of Economics, trabajó como corredor de bonos en Salomon Brothers, experiencia que narró en su primer libro, Liar’s Poker (1989). Desde entonces, ha publicado numerosas obras de no ficción que combinan investigación rigurosa con una narrativa accesible y envolvente.

Entre sus títulos más destacados se encuentran Moneyball: Rompiendo las reglas (2003), The Blind Side (2006), La gran apuesta (The Big Short, 2010) y Flash Boys: La revolución de Wall Street (2014). Varias de estas obras han sido adaptadas al cine con gran éxito, incluyendo Moneyball y The Big Short, esta última ganadora del Óscar al Mejor Guion Adaptado. Su libro más reciente, Going Infinite (2023), aborda el ascenso y caída de Sam Bankman-Fried y la plataforma FTX. Lewis ha sido galardonado con premios como el Gerald Loeb Award y fue elegido miembro de la Academia Estadounidense de las Artes y las Ciencias en 2023.
