Gold-laundering of Ottoman gold from the First World War era and Nazi gold from the Second World War provide a focus for those who are seeking to prevent illegal gold from being traded on the London gold bullion market. Legends of the lost city of Ubar where gold and frankincense were plentiful, inspire an expedition to the Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia. The quest by the Sunni Saudi Arabian government to deal a blow to the Shi'a on the Arabian Peninsula and to get their hands on the gold-rich resources of the Yemen, leads to an invasion of that country and an end to the Yemen Civil War.
