FÉLIX LOPE DE VEGA CARPIO (Madrid, 1562 – 1635). Dramaturgo y poeta español, revolucionó el género dramático en el Siglo de Oro. Desde niño, Lope de Vega demostró un talento precoz para la escritura, componiendo comedias y traduciendo del latín a temprana edad. Su vida fue intensa y a menudo polémica, alternando periodos de éxito literario con episodios de amoríos, duelos y destierros. Trabajó como secretario para nobles, participó en la Armada Invencible y, tras una profunda crisis personal, se ordenó sacerdote en 1614, sin abandonar nunca su labor literaria

En 1577 ingresó en la Universidad de Alcalá y más tarde se puso al servicio de diversos hombres poderosos. Convertido en un autor famoso y un digno padre de familia tras romper con su amante, Lope recibió dos duros golpes en apenas un año: las muertes de su hijo y su esposa en 1612 y 1613, lo que le sumió en una profunda crisis que le llevó a vestir los hábitos. Llegó incluso a oficiar misa. De ese período son obras como La dama boba, El perro del hortelano y Fuenteovejuna. Tanto en cantidad como en calidad, su obra es inabarcable, especialmente su teatro, género en el que el volumen de su producción es difícilmente cuantificable, incluso por los expertos.
