Reseña del libro "Eighteenth-Century English Quakers. The Middle-Class Myth (en Inglés)"
Drawing on a large database of around 10,000 separate entries, this book examines the occupations and social classes of Quakers in the eighteenth-century English economy. The data shows that Quakers were present across most economic sectors, often as self-employed artisans or retailers. They were ordinary people, and this book is, unusually, a tribute to the unrecorded masses. I argue that this group contained a larger working-class segment than has been reported previously, and that future studies should take this segment into account when drawing their conclusions. Data collection rates decrease as distance from London increases. Thus, there are likely to be more unrecorded Quakers in these areas who are in lower-status occupations
