Reseña del libro "Echidna (en Inglés)"

Half beautiful maiden, half monstrous serpent. She was the mother heroes could never kill.

Hesiod saw her plainly. Above the waist, a nymph with glancing eyes and fair cheeks; below it, a vast speckled snake that ate raw flesh in a cave deep beneath the holy earth. They called her Echidna, and her body bred the terrors of Greek legend: Cerberus, the Hydra, the Chimera, the riddling Sphinx. One by one, heroes hunted her children down. Echidna herself stayed "ageless all her days and immortal."

This study takes her out of her children's shadow and puts her at the center of the story. Echidna was never simple chaos. She was the shadow that cosmic order required, immortal because the disorder she stood for could be fought off again and again but never finished for good.

Reading Hesiod's Theogony, Herodotus, and the archaeological record, the book treats her cave as the very edge of the civilized world. Through psychological, feminist, and comparative analysis, her serpent body becomes a symbol of female power too old and too fertile for Greek myth to tame.

In Echidna's coils lies the truth about what the Greeks feared, what they worshipped, and what they could not afford to forget.
