Different forms of media representations of violence are dealt with, which illustrate that violence in the media is integrated into a specific film, video and television plot and can perform different functions. A violent film will be analyzed as an example. A precise film analysis is essential for an ethical evaluation of the content, as this is the only way to recognize narrative structures and individual characters in their actions. The effect of violent films/media and the legitimacy of violence in films as well as the function of media education will be discussed. The study is based on the author's involvement with media education in the context of political education and his participation in the "Ecumenical Decade to Overcome Violence 2001-2010".
