Mariko Tamaki es una escritora canadiense nacida en Toronto, conocida por su trabajo en novelas gráficas, literatura juvenil y cómics. Comenzó su carrera en el ámbito de la literatura con obras centradas en temas de identidad, adolescencia y experiencias LGBTQ+. Alcanzó reconocimiento internacional con la novela gráfica Skim (2008), realizada en colaboración con su prima Jillian Tamaki, donde explora la vida de una adolescente en un entorno escolar. Esta obra fue elogiada por su enfoque honesto y sensible.

Posteriormente, Tamaki continuó su carrera con títulos como This One Summer (2014), también ilustrado por Jillian Tamaki, que recibió múltiples premios y fue notable por su tratamiento maduro de los problemas juveniles.
