BEARA TO BUTTE: Florry's Journey is the third historical fiction installment in Sean M. Sullivan's THE BEARA TRILOGY. Though there are several recurring characters in each of the novels, they are stand alone. All are loosely based on Sullivan's own ancestors. This latest installment is certainly the most personal as the author pays tribute to his own parents. Its focus is his father's first thirty years--his youth in West Cork, Ireland, his time spent in the Irish Free State Army during World War II, and his immigration to America. Further, Sullivan's maternal grandmother's turbulent days in Ireland are examined and her own immigration to the U.S. Finally, the author's mother and her tumultuous adolescence is explored. In the midst of it all are sweeping examples of Irish humor as well as fascinating details of Ireland's 20th century history as it established its own sovereignty.
