Jamaica Kincaid (nacida Elaine Cynthia Potter Richardson en 1949, Saint John's, Antigua y Barbuda) es una escritora y ensayista caribeña-estadounidense reconocida por su estilo lírico y su enfoque en temas como la identidad, el colonialismo y las relaciones familiares. A los 17 años se trasladó a Nueva York, donde trabajó como au pair y posteriormente adoptó el seudónimo Jamaica Kincaid. Colaboró con la revista The New Yorker desde 1976 hasta 1995. Actualmente, reside en Vermont y ha sido profesora en la Universidad de Harvard.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran Annie John (1985), Un pequeño lugar (1988), Lucy (1990), Autobiografía de mi madre (1995), Mi hermano (1997) y Mr. Potter (2002). Su obra ha sido traducida a múltiples idiomas y ha recibido premios como el Anisfield-Wolf Book Award y el Prix Femina Étranger. Kincaid es miembro de la American Academy of Arts and Letters y de la American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
