The Battle of the Cheyenne River was supposed to end the Wolf Nation. Tim's six hundred men broke the Wolf Lord's army, executed Gregory the Fang on the eastern bank, and sent Will Mints bleeding into the southern Hills with nothing but a limping black wolf and an empty Taurus. By every available measure, it was over.

It wasn't over.

Deep in the ancient granite heart of the Black Hills, Will rebuilds. A Lakota medicine man named Lone Wolf has been waiting on a northern ridge for the thirteenth wolf dreamer in his people's oral history. The deep road runs further than Will knew.
