Tommy Dayton is a small-time comic in the mid-eighties, who is struggling to get to the next level. When he crosses paths with an old friend who is just starting out in the business, he offers to help. But his coaching is so good, he helps her get to where he wants to be. Torn between love and jealousy, he waits for her to stumble. But it is Tommy who falls... for her, and the more she rejects his proposals, the better their lives become.
