Louise Elisabeth Glück nació el 22 de abril de 1943 en Nueva York, Estados Unidos, en una familia de procedencia húngara judía. Desde temprana edad mostró una inclinación por la literatura y la poesía, influida por la lectura y el ambiente intelectual de su hogar. Su juventud estuvo marcada por la lucha contra la anorexia, experiencia que más tarde abordaría en su obra con honestidad y profundidad.

Estudió en el Sarah Lawrence College y en la Universidad de Columbia, aunque no completó un titulo formal debido a su enfermedad. A pesar de estos hechos, inició una carrera literaria que la convertiría en una de las voces más influyentes de la poesía contemporánea estadounidense.

Su poesía se caracteriza por un lenguaje preciso y sobrio, exploración de temas como la pérdida, la familia, la memoria o el deseo. También fue destacada profesora, impartiendo clases en universidades como Yale o Stanford, mentorando a nuevas generaciones de poetas.

Entre sus obras más importantes destacan "Firstborn", "The Wild Iris", "Vita Nova" o "Faithful and Virtuous Night". Ha sido premiada con el Premio Pulitzer de Poesía en 1993, National Book Award en 2014 o el Premio Bollingen en 2001.
