As Ian's friend, Mike, translates the tale, Ian searches for a way to validate his find. While Ian works on his new dissertation, we can follow the saga of a group of Vikings in the New World centuries before Columbus "discovers" America. As Ian works on this earthshaking story, we see him grow as an individual. He goes from a professional student hiding from life in the halls of academia to a complete person accepting life in the world. The tale when completely translated has a twist that even Ian does not expect. His final solution to his problem is a surprise.
