Rick Yancey, nacido el 4 de noviembre de 1962, es un escritor estadounidense conocido por sus novelas de suspenso, fantasía y ciencia ficción dirigidas al público juvenil. Estudió en la Universidad Estatal de Florida y se graduó en la Universidad Roosevelt de Chicago con una licenciatura en Inglés. Antes de dedicarse por completo a la escritura, trabajó como oficial de campo para el Servicio de Impuestos Internos de Estados Unidos.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentra la trilogía "La quinta ola", compuesta por "La quinta ola" (2013), "El mar infinito" (2014) y "La última estrella" (2016), todas en el género de ciencia ficción juvenil. Otra serie notable es "El monstrumólogo", que incluye títulos como "El monstrumólogo" (2009) y "La maldición del wendigo" (2010), centrada en el terror y la fantasía. Su novela "The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp" fue nombrada "Mejor Libro del Año" por Publishers Weekly y nominada para la Medalla Carnegie.
