Many of those streets no longer exist, having been cleared away almost 60 years ago, while some remain in name only and are entirely unrecognisable from how they were in times gone by. Through a mixture of images, maps, and details of long standing residents, it is once again possible to have an insight to the past and a view of how things were at a time now almost forgotten. In his previous book, Southampton’s Chapel Area – A Hundred Years of the Past, he retraced the streets of his youth and now extends those memories further to the long disappeared neighbourhoods of St Mary’s and Golden Grove.
