Gabor Maté es un médico y autor canadiense de origen húngaro, reconocido por su enfoque humanista en temas como el trauma, la adicción y el desarrollo infantil. Con una carrera de más de cuatro décadas, ha ejercido como médico de familia y en cuidados paliativos, además de trabajar con poblaciones vulnerables en Vancouver. Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran Cuando el cuerpo dice no (2003), Mentes dispersas (1999), En el reino de los fantasmas hambrientos (2008) y El mito de la normalidad (2022), este último coescrito con su hijo Daniel Maté. También es coautor de Tus hijos te necesitan (2004), junto a Gordon Neufeld.

Su trabajo ha sido reconocido con diversos premios, incluyendo el Premio Hubert Evans de No Ficción Literaria en 2009 y el Vine Award for Canadian Jewish Literature en 2023.
