English summary: In these collected essays the emeritus chair holder of Christian archaeology and art history at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nurnberg (born 1932 in Leipzig) considers the question of the material manifestation of the Christian faith in the area of intersection of the science of art and theology. At the same time these essays provide insight into the manifold research focuses of the author which range from the art history of late antiquity and Byzantine art history to Protestant Iconography and the history of protestant church architecture from the sixteenth century until to the present day. This includes also reflections on the relationship between contemporary art and Christian faith and on protestant paramentics. German description: Die Aufsatze des 1932 in Leipzig geborenen emeritierten Lehrstuhlinhabers fur Christliche Archaologie und Kunstgeschichte an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg gehen der Frage nach der materialen Gestalt des christlichen Glaubens im Schnittfeld von Kunstwissenschaft und Theologie nach. Sie gewahren zugleich Einblick in die vielfaltigen Forschungsschwerpunkte des Erlanger Kunst- und Kirchenhistorikers, die von der spatantiken wie byzantinischen Kunstgeschichte uber die protestantische Ikonographie und die Geschichte des evangelischen Kirchenbaus einschliesslich seiner Ausstattung vom 16. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart reichen und auch das Verhaltnis von zeitgenossischer Kunst und christlichem Glauben und die evangelische Paramentik mit einbeziehen.
