It did not seem unusual to spend a large part of our childhood in the rough untamed wilderness of Alaska, living on hard work, moose and garden fare, far from modern conveniences like electricity, running water and phones. If we Had thought about it, we probably would have felt it terribly unfair. As adults, we have come to the conclusion that we had a rare and rich childhood indeed. With her customary wry humor, our mother Rose tells these tales showing you that survival along the mid century Elliott required ingenuity and not a small amount of luck, embodying the spirit you expect from true Pioneers of Alaska!
