Twenty years have passed since Jon was born to Young Jolyon and Irene and Soames married Annette, who gave him a daughter, Fleur. The families have not met in those years until Jon and Irene attend an art exhibition at June's gallery at the same time as Soames and Fleur. Jon and Fleur see each other at a distance and are mutually attracted to each other. When Fleur wants something (or someone) she goes out to get it, irrespective of the risk of anyone being hurt.
