Migration involves the permanent or semi-permanent change in residence of an individual or a group of people over a significant distance and time. With significant inter state migration every season Bihar is increasingly being known as the money order economy'.. However there is marked migration within the state as well, especially towards the only major Urban Agglomeration – Patna. The hundreds of workers who move to Patna every year are a major force determining the economy and culture of the city. The research was carried out on the basis of certain assumptions that there is large scale migrations to Patna on an annual basis, that lack of employment opportunities, poor harvests, frequent floods and droughts are major push factors for migrants and that most of the migrants are employed in blue collar jobs as laborers, drivers, rickshaw pullers and other similar activities. The main objective of this study was to assess the socio-economic changes due to migration from rural to urban centers and to know the occupational structure, work participation rate and the working condition of migrated workers in Patna UA. The research was carried out with the help of field survey and data interpretation. Samples of 50 migrant workers were interviewed on a random basis in the localities of Boring Road, Anandpuri and Budha Colony with the help of a questionnaire.
