Reseña del libro

The autobiographical perspective of Ross McElwee's cinema forms a uniquely personal body of work which is nevertheless able to effectively communicate the concerns of his time to his audience. This is confirmed by the success his films have enjoyed with the public and critics in the United States and elsewhere. His films, deeply rooted in what is known as the South in the United States, transcend their local origins in order to address issues of universal relevance, such as personal and family identity, the relations between memory and history or the media's representation of society. It is a complex network which appeals to viewers from widely differing backgrounds who can identify with the problems and questions proposed by this passionate filmmaker. McElwee's cinema is analyzed in this book by American and European scholars, such as James H. Watkins, Gary Hawkins, Dominique Bluher, or Josep Maria Catala. The book also includes the McElwee's points of view, in the last two chapters, with an article by him and a collage interview. The book is completely bilingual (English-Spanish).
