As of 2010, The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK), a Chinese Proficiency Test administered by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, is divided into six levels of difficulty. HSK 3 is intended for test takers who studied Chinese for about one and a half years and who are thus able to communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily lives. HSK 3 Study Guide not only uses both Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, but also presents more than 300 new vocabulary words that are required for Level 3, as well as introduces additional vocabulary words and phrases that are encountered on some of the mock tests. Moreover, this book lists key grammar points as well as mentions important tips to help the reader successfully pass the HSK 3 exam.
