The human being, repository of the principles of personality, dignity, equality, and solidarity, is the axis about which democratic societies are constructed as a result of the combination of individual and collective self-determination. Solidarity is an element that allows us to recognize ourselves in the other and preoccupy ourselves with their wellbeing: to mobilize resources and establish relations with other collectives and social movements, forming a great network of people and organizations oriented to construct a world more just, democratic, and egalitarian. The world, societies, and labor spaces are constructed in a participatory manner out of respect for individuals and people groups, allowing them to decide their own personal and social development. Politics is a space of horizontal relationships between people and social collectives in the search for common interests, and to that end a democracy of development based on real citizen participation should be promoted. The effects of the globalization process bring up problems that have to be approached for the sake of harmonious co-existence between cultures and the recreation of political-economic thought about the foundations of equality, solidarity, and justice in a globalized world. This book unites works of international experts in different disciplines and demonstrates that it is necessary to exchange knowledge in order to identify and successfully confront the challenges involved.
