The "romantic heroine in the Indian tradition is celebrated in prose, poetry, painting, dance and music. This volume examines these various aspects of her romantic emotion, its depiction in the paintings of the Rajput courts and other schools of art, and above all, investigates the central position she occupies in the Vaishnava tradition.
